The Rollover

Back to front? Front to back? What will come first? "They" say most babies will rollover from front to back between 3-4 months and then from back to front 5-6 months. 10 days away from her 6 month birthday and my little munchkin seems to have decided that she's not going to do either.
It's not that I'm worried that she'll never rollover. As one of my friends once said - how many healthy adults do you know that can't roll over?? But... that doesn't stop me from being a little bummed out by it. I have been researching this, and apparently alot of babies 'skip' this step and just start sitting up and then crawling and on to walking. Still.... why?? We've been doing all the exercises and tricks to try to get her to rollover but the minute she gets close to it, she panics and rolls back the other way. Even if we try to give her a nudge or pull her over, the instant she feels any pressure she stops trying and instantly rolls back. I don't know what else to do.
On top of this, I don't know that it was a mistake as such, but now we have another problem. OK, not really a problem, but we have let her try the Jolly Jumper, and well, she's addicted!! She loves it so much, that now it is difficult to get her to do anything else. All she wants to do is jump!  It is so fun to watch her though, she laughs and jumps all the time, definately keeps us entertained. The funny thing is she seems so coordinated when jumping. From our experience, we seem to remember other babies trying to jump, always seem off balance and jump with 1 leg or can't jump at all and our little girl is so together, jumping with both legs and completely in control. How is it she can be so coordinated in some areas, and behind in others?
Of course we all know that every baby is different and grows and advances in their own way but it really is interesting.
I'll keep ya posted if the rollover finally occurs, we are working on it.

On another note - the feeding is going well. Both the rice cereal and mixed cereal with fruit are a success and so far we have tried Sweet Potato, Avocado and Squash. The Sweet Potato and Squash are a hit but the avocado isn't quite as popular. We'll try again in a few days and see if it goes any better.

  1. I am 35 and the first time mother of a little girl (currently 7 1/2 months). Babies are funny things. Baby girl rolled over back to front at 4 months old, but it took another month before she could roll the other way. And forget the jolly jumper, she's the one leg, tilted to the side kind of girl.

  2. Hi! I found your blog through mom blogs. Our babies are almost the same age he was born sept 17. He rolled over from front to back at around 4 months for like 3 times and never did it again. He started rolling over from back to front at around 5 months but it took a lot of prompting for him to do so (he would normally do it when he's trying to reach the boob lol). Anyway, he didn't do it a lot basically. But starting about last week, he went crazy rolling from side to side and to his belly. I was surprised it came so suddenly.. Your baby will just surprise you :) BTW, my son loves to jump too, only he does it in his jumperoo.
